This course teaches the fundamentals of modern animatronics through real, proven builds. You’ll learn how to design, build, and bring characters to life using techniques developed through my own animatronic projects: a fully skinned foam latex Animatronic Pikachu, a silicone Magikarp that moves and sings, and a Glamrock Bonnie head with motorized eye movement.
We’ll cover the full animatronics workflow: planning movements and joints, choosing mechanisms and motors, working with servos and linkages, wiring and programming microcontrollers, and integrating LEDs, audio, and synchronized movement. You’ll also learn skinning and finishing techniques, including working with foam latex and silicone, and how to design internals that stay serviceable and durable for filming, conventions, or long-term use.
This course is designed for makers, YouTubers, cosplayers, and prop builders who want to move beyond static costumes and simple LEDs into believable, character-driven motion. By the end, you’ll have an understanding on how to build animatronics that emote and bring your build to life, and you’ll have the skills to design your own moving characters from scratch.
